On the 6th March 2015 - 2 years to the day after taking on Tall Storeys Guest House we have updated our website which incorporates a blog and Facebook feed.

New season - New website

Look out for our brand new Tall Storeys sign.  Hoping to get this up tomorrow - weather permitting and things going to plan!!  Some things are easier said than done - however, will do my best!

Hoping to launch our new website (6th March 2015). 

The old website was not compatible with Apple, tablets and mobiles and as Google Analytics report that 50% of our guests use a tablet or mobile to find us so we needed to change.

We are also on FaceBook  so please "like us" - thankyou.

We are also on Twitter so please "follow us"  - thankyou.

It is  exactly 2 years since we arrived in Sunny Scarborough and started a new chapter in our lives.

Thank you to all our great guests for making the transition here a very enjoyable and rewarding one. 

Our website is fairly static, but FB and Twitter have all the latest news about events in Scarborough and gossip at Tall Storeys.

Latest News: -  Morna and I are singing with the Graham Community Choir at The Spa accompanying Russell Watson on his "Up close and Personal tour".  It is all very exciting.

Tall Storeys - Busy July

I am afraid I have neglected my blog for sometime, but there has been so much going on here with so many people coming to stay, there has been little time for reflection!  As well as our Tall Storeys guests, it has been so lovely to see our dear friends from Romania, Switzerland, Selkirk in the Scottish Borders and of course, as always our much loved family.

Scarborough, over the last few months, has definitely been the place to be.  With the beautiful weather, Armed Forces Day, Seafest, Status Quo, Boyzone, Little Mix at the open theatre, fantastic plays by Sir Alan Ayckbourn, Sir Arthur Sullivan`s Cox & Box - adapted by Chris Monks and Richard Atkinson at the Stephen JosephTheatre  have been an absolute delight.  More events at the Open Air Theatre coming up soon too - Roundelay which promises to be a fascinating and unique experience for the audience - starts 4th September.

During the Seafest week-end we have had the Leeds Caribbean Carnival performing on the beach, our very own mermaid visiting Scarborough, helicopter displays and rides with the RNLI life boat.  Demonstrations by top chefs, craft stalls and much more.  It is just fabulous to see the beach full to overflowing with everyone, old and young, enjoying the sand, sea and dare I say it, seagulls - when they are not stealing fish n' chips from unsuspecting visitors!

I have had to work hard keeping our garden in tip top condition - the sun has brought out the best of all our plants and we are certainly `blooming` at the moment - making it a lovely, tranquil and scented place for our guests to sit in and enjoy

August looks to be a very busy month for us, we are looking forward to meeting new and old guests alike and will be back on the blog as soon as I have a moment to do so!

PS:  Our very exciting news is that our youngest daughter Sophie is having her first baby in November.  Congratulations to Sophie and Craig - as you can imagine, Ian and I are so excited and cannot wait...........

Armed Forces Day!

Wow, wow, wow, I think the whole world came to Scarborough today.....so many people on the foreshore to watch the fantastic displays of aircraft - Vulcan Bomber, Spitfire Hurricane and Lancaster Bomber - RAF Tucano display, beach boot camp, Sea King/RNLI display, Standards and Veterans` Parade, climbing walls and paint-ball range + many more stalls and entertainment.  The sky was blue and the sun was shining throughout all the events making it just a fabulous day out.

Tall Storeys enjoying a full house again tonight - some guests have come for the Northern Soul experience, some to eat at the outstanding restaurant Lanterna and others to attend the Open Air Theatre for the Last Night of the Proms concert featuring Aled Jones and Military Wives Choir.

Such an exciting week-end what with the tennis, football and Armed Forces Day!

Well done everyone involved in making today such a success - we are all so proud of our Armed Forces and feel privileged to have them in our midst.  Thank you.  and others to attend the Open Air Theatre for the Last Night of the Proms concert featuring Aled Jones and Military Wives Choir.

Dexter the British Bulldog!

My owners took me on a little holiday to Scarborough recently.  Well, I have never been to the seaside before so I was very excited.  We stayed in a lovely little guest house called Tall Storeys.  I soon discovered why it was named Tall Storeys as there were so many stairs!!  Thankfully my little legs only had to climb one flight of stairs to our beautiful room with a stunning sea view!  Morna and Ian at Tall Storeys seemed to like me a lot which is always a good thing - I think they would have liked to have kept me, they made me feel so at home and welcome.  They even provided me with a mat for my water and food dishes and a blanket (of course I brought my own, but the thought was there!).

Anyway, I just loved running along the sand down on the seafront and exploring all the little streets around here, although I have to say I was totally exhausted by the time I got back up the hill to Tall Storeys.  

 

However, it was so nice just to sit around in the conservatory and nip in and out to the garden to get a breath of fresh air and to stretch my legs.  It was a fabulous holiday for me and I look forward to going back again some day in the future!

Blooming

Suddenly the Tall Storeys Garden is blooming lovely!

The tulips which I planted last year have been magnificnet and so unusual. They make me happy!

Wisteria is climbing the wall at last and looking good, as is the clematis and honeysuckle which took ages to untangle.

We are working hard on repairing the lawn which is not looking so great, but fingers crossed with all the love and attention it is getting from us both, it will soon take shape.  So much moss and trying to stop the pigeons eating the new grass seed has been a bit of a challenge! Pigeon could be on the breakfast menu tomorrow.

However, we are looking good and I am so excited to see so many plants growing stronger and taking shape all over the garden.  

Our little fish in the pond are no longer little.  

So glad they survived the winter months.......

Birthday Party Concert

Last night we could be justified in thinking we were in the West End of London and not the Stephen Joseph Theatre to celebrate the 75th birthday of Sir Alan Ayckbourn. The party was in the form of a concert which featured the best of the best. Compared by the lovely Janie Dee, multi-award winning actress and singer, currently appearing in Blithe Spirit with Dame Angela Lansbury at the West End Gielgud Theatre.

Janie also sang and brought the house down with her amazing voice and delightful style.  A treat for all of us.

Other performers were the fantastic Tom Townsend, born and bred in Scarborough, influenced greatly be Sir Alan and much talented blues/folk singer.  

David Newton - voted best jazz pianist for the 10th time in 2011.

Steve Phillips and the Rough Diamonds. Steve and the band`s latest critically acclaimed album, North Country Blues (2013) features a number of self-penned songs.

Peter Cropper, Benjamin Nabarro and Martin Cropper - a more accomplished trio of chamber music musicians would be hard to find, totally world class in every respect - the atmosphere in the theatre was such that you could hear a pin drop - truly wonderful.

David Newton and John Pearce - Jazz musician, was something to be believed.  John playing violin accompanied David on the piano and with such skill, precision and passion was out of this world.

Lastly, our own wonderfully talented Director of Scarborough Spa Orchestra played for the SJT Quirky Choir who ended the show with two songs and then the choir and audience joined together in singing Happy Birthday to Sir Alan.  A memorable and historic night as to have such diverse and talented musicians and performers together in one place, would be hard to repeat.  It could only happen at the SJT. Fabulous.

To have Janie Dee stay with us at Tall Storeys was the icing on the cake!
